The Doctoral Programme in Administrative Sciences, Business Studies and Politics provides students with a breadth and depth of expertise, cultivates their problem-solving abilities and prepares them for careers in industry and business, academia and the broader society. Completing the programme demonstrates that you have the knowledge and skills to become a high-level expert in your field or carry out research that meets international standards of excellence. Students who are awarded a doctoral degree:

· have an in-depth understanding of their own field of research and the basic problems and development thereof,

· have the knowledge and skills to carry out independent research, apply scientific research methods, address complex scientific problems and produce new scientific knowledge,

· are able to keep track of advancements in scientific theory, their field of research and other related fields,

· have the ability to produce texts that follow the conventions of academic writing and to communicate effectively by presenting constructive arguments

· have the necessary communication and language skills and other abilities to take on challenging expert and development roles and engage in international cooperation.

Content description

The scope of the degree awarded upon successful completion of the Doctoral Programme in Administrative Sciences, Business Studies and Politics is 240 credits. To meet the degree requirements, you must complete a doctoral dissertation and/or a licentiate thesis and earn 60 credits by completing the following units of study:

· General Academic Competences, 15-35 cr

· Discipline- and Field Specific Studies, 25-45 cr

All students enrolled in the doctoral programme will draw up a supervision plan together with their supervisors. This plan will list the courses counted towards your degree and specify the roles and responsibilities of you and your supervisor.

The courses that may be counted towards your degree may be offered by your doctoral programme, faculty, or the Doctoral School of Tampere University. You will also have the option to complete courses in other Finnish or foreign universities or doctoral schools. All students are recommended to go on exchange to a foreign university or attend international doctoral courses while working towards their degree.


Prerequisites


To be eligible for admission to postgraduate study, you will be expected to hold a degree in a field that is relevant to your proposed doctoral programme and present a feasible research plan. You will generally be required to have received at least the grade Good for your master’s thesis.
